ALDI update policy to enforce all customers to wear face coverings in store

All customers - unless medically exempt - must wear a mask in store as of January 13.

The ALDI website has been updated to reflect the change.

The website states: "From 13th January 2021, all customers will be required to wear a mask unless they are medically exempt.

"For a limited period, customers that forget to bring a mask will be provided with one, free of charge.

"Anyone without a medical exemption that refuses to wear a mask is not permitted to enter an Aldi store."

Following the news that Morrisons and Sainsbury’s are cracking down on shoppers not wearing face coverings whilst shopping, a number of supermarkets have also announced that they will be doing the same.

Tesco, Asda, Aldi and Waitrose are the latest to tighten their rules around shoppers wearing face coverings, stating that shoppers without medical exemptions will be refused entry to their stores.

Aldi chief executive Giles Hurley also said: “The safety of our colleagues and customers is our number one priority.

“Wearing a mask is mandatory for everyone that shops at Aldi, except for the small number of people who have a medical exemption.”

CO-OP and Lidl are among stores not to update their rules at this time.
