Owlett Hall, which is managed by Tracey Robinson the Home Manager and her team, has implemented a huge number of changes since last summer and was recently recognised as good in three key areas following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission.

Their report, released in February, noted: “People were well cared for by staff and provided positive feedback. One person said, ‘People are so friendly. I love it here, they are all so nice and we have a laugh.’

“We observed positive engagement between staff and people living in the home. People were involved in making decisions about their care and we found people's dignity was well maintained. Staff treated people kindly and respected their wishes.”

It added: “People and their relatives felt the home was well managed and that they were listened to. The manager continuously engaged with people, relatives and staff to seek feedback and improve care within the home.

“Relatives told us improvements the new manager had implemented including the recruitment of new staff to reduce agency use. New electronic care plans had been embedded and included personalised details to support people with their care.”

Owlett Hall caters for those in need of round-the-clock nursing care and complex, specialist care as well as offering tailored dementia care. It's spread across three floors, each with separate adapted facilities: one floor provides residential care, another level provides care for people living with dementia and the third provides nursing care.

The 57-room home, which is run by Bondcare, even offers a unique ‘try-before-you-buy’ service where prospective residents can spend 24 hours there to see how it feels to be part of the home’s community.

Anyone wanting to know more about the home following its overhaul can see behind the scenes at an open day on Thursday, 12 March, to meet the friendly team there.

“We are inviting families, friends, social workers and anyone who would like to come along and see the wide-ranging changes that we have made here,” explains Safaah Rashid, deputy home manager.

“We have recruited new qualified staff and embedded new ways of working to promote a positive culture within the home; we've also had a full refurbishment and improved accessibility, particularly to our outdoor space and gardens which have fantastic views of the Pennines.

“This is a great chance for prospective residents and their loved ones to come and see how much we can offer them.”

Owlett Hall holds regular family days for families to discuss care options; entertaining events are frequently scheduled for residents by the in-house activity coordinator, including a summer fair, birthday celebrations and trips to local attractions and shopping centers.

To see for yourself and chat to staff and residents, visit Owlett Hall at 246 Wakefield Rd, Drighlington, Bradford, BD11 1ED from 2pm until 6pm on Thursday, 12 March.
