Success runs in the family as Olympic star's sister celebrates Cambridge place

While most people discover their results at school or at home, Joanna Wilson found out her grades at an airport in Paris after returning from seeing her brother become an Olympic hero in Rio. Nile Wilson was part of the British gymnast success story of the 2016 games as he won a bronze medal on the horizontal bar.

But the good news for the Wilson famly has not stopped there. Younger sister Joanna found that she had got three A*s at A-level and with them a place at Cambridge University to study natural sciences.

She said: “It was a 30 hour journey back from Rio and I knew that at the end of the flight we would be getting a text from a teacher with my results.” On landing she found out she had earned A*s in biology, chemistry and maths.

“I was really pleased with how my exams had gone and I am really proud of my results.” Joanna, who went to Pudsey Grangefield School said her brother’s success in gymastics had helped to inspire her.

“Its been an amazing trip. We have travelled to see him perform at events before but nothing is like the scale of the Olympics. The moment of him winning the medal I will never forget. I am inspired by his work ethic and seeing what he has achieved.”
