The first six weeks of the programme will include masterclasses in digital storytelling, production techniques, ideas generation, pitching skills and delivering to a creative brief

All that time you spend on creating videos, sharing memes and engaging with the world through TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram or YouTube could lead you to a future career in the world of TV and content creation.

‘Content Creatives’ is a new creative talent development programme launched by social enterprise SharpFutures, Channel 4 and their Leeds based digital content production team 4Studio.

The aim and vision of the programme is to inspire and encourage a new generation of digital content makers in Yorkshire by offering six paid placements to develop their skills, experience and editorial voice.

SharpFutures are working with Job Centre Plus and DWP work coaches in the region to reach as diverse an audience as possible and are specifically looking for people that may not have considered applying for such a course before. As a full-time paid-for course ‘Content Creatives’ is designed for a broad range of people, whatever their background or employment status.

4Studio Digital Content Director Janine Smith said: “I’m incredibly excited to bring opportunities to young creatives in the North. We firmly believe that creative talent can come from anywhere - no matter your background.”

Lee Stanley, CEO of SharpFutures, said: "This course is aimed at young people in Yorkshire that may not have considered a career in content making but already enjoy social media day to day.

“We want to see a really diverse mix of people take part in Content Creatives so would encourage applications from those that are passionate about creating and consuming content but maybe do not yet have the skills or experience. It’s an amazing opportunity.”

The 12-week programme is for individuals aged 18-24 years old living in Yorkshire, as part of Channel 4’s commitment to developing talent in the Nations and Regions.

The first 6 weeks of the programme from Monday, 26 July, will include masterclasses in digital storytelling, production techniques, ideas generation, pitching skills and delivering to a creative brief, using well known Channel 4 shows such as Derry Girls, The Inbetweeners and Hollyoaks.

These will be led by a team of experts in each respective subject and there will be supplementary online learning in recognised industry software such as Adobe Premiere Pro. From Monday 6th September 2021 the last 6 weeks will be spent working directly with the team at 4Studio in Leeds.

It couldn’t be simpler to apply, and the successful applicants will be provided with the technology and software needed for the duration of the 12 week programme.
