A quarter of all the GCSEs gained by pupils at Benton Park School were grade 7 or above, with three-quarters of grades being 4 and above. Among the results, students also achieved an impressive number of the coveted grade 9s.

“It has been a privilege to share our students’ successes with them,” said headteacher Delia Martin. “As a school we are incredibly proud of them all and the results they have achieved, which reflect five years of hard work, effort, determination and resilience.”

Benton Park School has already notched up some remarkable A-level results, strengthening its reputation as an impressive hub for learning. Half of Benton Park’s sixth formers achieved A* to B grades this year: the number of students achieving the sought-after A* grade was significantly higher than in previous years, with a quarter of all students achieving at least one A* to A grade.

The school performed particularly well in Computer Science, Psychology and Religious Education, as well as more traditional academic subjects including English and Maths, where over 90 per cent of students achieved a grade C or above.

Open evening

Prospective pupils and their parents will have the chance to see behind the scenes at the Harrogate Road school at an open evening on Wednesday, October 2, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm, with the headteacher’s address at 5.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

Choosing a secondary school can be a challenge but the team at Benton Park, which was rated good by Ofsted following a short inspection in October last year, will be on hand to answer a range of questions at the event.

“This really is a fantastic place to be with such articulate, thoughtful and caring young people,” says Ms Martin who praised her “strong and committed” team of staff.

High-quality teaching and learning is at the heart of Benton Park School. According to Ms Martin, lessons at the school inspire students with each lesson delivered being challenging, motivating and engaging, and students at the school find themselves in a supportive and collaborative learning environment.

This is supported by the recent Ofsted report, in which Her Majesty’s Inspector Barry Found wrote: “Pupils were found to have positive attitudes to learning in their lessons, showing respect towards teachers and their peers. Inspectors observed no disruption to lessons at all during the inspection.

Positive guidance

“Pupils spoke positively about their experience at the school and reported that pupils show respect and tolerance towards each other. Pupils also spoke positively about the guidance they have been given about keeping themselves safe, and the support and advice staff offer them.”

The school’s ethos is underpinned by five key values: resilience, collaboration, inspiration, compassion and endeavour. These values are focused around developing young people to be the very best they can be and to equip them with the skills, knowledge and attributes to be confident, rounded and successful members of society.

All Benton Park pupils have the opportunity to be involved in learning beyond the classroom and staff actively encourage students to try out new things.
