Education bosses unite to launch campaign

The 15 education authorities in the region have joined forces to stage the Yorkshire and Humber Education Summit in Leeds.

The aim is to develop strategies to deliver Yorkshire-wide school improvement.

It will start with around 30 pathfinder schools which will be supported to become good or outstanding.

The project has been compared to the London and Greater Manchester Challenge schemes which have been credited with improving school standards.

Speakers at the event will include Professor Mel Ainscow who is leading the work, former Education Secretary Lord Baker who now champions technical education, Russell Hobby, the general secretary of the National Association of Head Teachers, and Kevin Courtney, the deputy general secretary of the National Union of Teachers.

The event is being held at Leeds Town Hall. Leeds Council’s deputy leader, Coun Judith Blake, has played a leading role in organising the drive to raise standards.
