Councillors Neil Buckley, Dan Cohen and Peter Harrand will use £14,500 of their Covid grant funding to help the schools.

The Leeds councillors spoke with all local authority and academy schools in Alwoodley to determine what they needed, and have arranged for schools to receive grants towards the cost of vital equipment such as laptops.

They have said they want to ensure local schools have the equipment necessary to "provide high quality learning to local young people", particularly during the challenging pandemic period.

Councillor Neil Buckley (Alwoodley Ward) said: “We were pleased to award this funding to our local schools to help with their technology requirements.

"It must be a priority to ensure young people continue to receive a high standard of education throughout the pandemic and beyond, and part of that is about providing access to the right equipment.”

Councillor Dan Cohen (Alwoodley Ward) said: “Now more than ever it’s vital that schools have the resources they need to deliver learning for pupils who are already facing challenging circumstances with Covid restrictions.

"Hopefully this funding will allow schools to directly purchase the equipment they need, whether it be laptops or other technology, and allow pupils to progress with their learning.”

Councillor Peter Harrand (Alwoodley Ward) said: “We’re always keen to work with our local schools and listen to their concerns and needs.

"This is a good example of us being able to get the funding to where it’s needed and let schools use it for the benefit of their own school community.”

The funds from the Covid grant is being distributed to Primley Wood Primary School; Alwoodley Primary School; Allerton C of E Primary; St. Paul’s Primary School; Highfield Primary School; Brodetsky Primary School; Wigton Moor Primary; Allerton High and Leeds Jewish Free School.
