Man killed and woman seriously injured in Yorkshire field were trampled by cows, police confirm

A man and woman who were injured in a field in Wakefield had been trampled on by cows, police said.

Police were called on Tuesday to a concern for safety report at a field just off Hollinhirst Lane, Netherton.

A police spokeswoman said: "At 12.46pm on Tuesday police were called to a report of a man and a woman who had been trampled on by cows in a field, just off Hollinghirst Lane in Netherton.

"The man, in his fifties, was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. The woman, who is also in her fifties, was airlifted to hospital.

"Her condition today is said to be serious but stable. The Health and Safety Executive have been informed and enquiries are continuing."

It comes just weeks after a teacher from Richmond School was killed in a cow trampling accident while walking his dogs near the town.

David Clark was also in his 50s, was a keen cyclist and rugby coach who had worked at Richmond School for 23 years.
