Vodafone is the latest provider to bring 5G - which can get speeds up to ten times faster than 4G - to the city.

EE launched its 5G network in Leeds in December.Belfast and Edinburgh, as well as more areas of Greater Manchester, are getting 5G at the same time as Leeds.

5G also allows for far greater capacity, enabling many more people to get a signal even in very crowded areas, such as football stadia and railway stations.

But the super-fast speeds are only accesible to those with a small number of newer phones.

Vodafone UK Chief Executive Officer Nick Jeffery said: “We have started the new year as we mean to go on. We now offer 5G in double the number of places than our nearest rival and we have significantly boosted the capacity of our network.

"It is ready for the arrival in 2020 of some great new 5G handsets and the next big software release bringing ultra-low latency. Together, these will push 5G to the next level.”
