The ‘for sale’ sign has gone up just 18 months after the busy post office and store underwent a major refurbishment, and at a time when business is soaring.

Owner Waqas Khan, who has run the post office and shop since 2013, said he is selling reluctantly due to health issues.

He added: “It’s been a really tough decision because this is a fantastic business.

“I know whoever takes it over will get a good business, with lots of potential to expand even further and really nice customers.”

Meanwhile, its recently refurbished shop also provides a range of daily essential groceries, cards and stationery.

However according to business property experts Ernest Wilson, who are helping Mr Khan sell the business, there is huge scope to develop the business further.

A spokesman said: “The potential here is untold, with retail sales improving weekly and the potential to introduce an off-licence subject to licence approval.

“It is immaculately fitted and equipped, and is a fantastic opportunity for someone.”

The post office and shop have the security of a new lease and low overheads, while the freehold – which would include a two bedroom upstairs flat which is currently let – is available for negotiation.

Local post offices like Middle Lane, which features an ATM machine as well as banking services, have seen demand rise following a swathe of local bank closures across Rotherham.
