HMV Leeds confirm closing date of city centre shop after 25 years
HMV Leeds has confirmed the closing date for the city centre store in the core.
The store is due to be closed by the end of January 2020 according to HMV.
Closing down signs have been on the exterior of the store for many months, however an exact closing date has not been disclosed since the announcement.
A new shop in St John's Centre in Leeds was opened last month and has proved very popular with customers.
In June, HMV's new owners announced they would close the large store on Victoria Walk/The Core after failing to reach an agreement with their landlord.
HMV, which first opened in London's Oxford Street in 1921, has been in financial trouble for several years, going into administration in 2013 and 2018.
It was acquired by Canadian retailer Sunrise Records earlier this year.
Laurence Price, HMV head of retail, said in October: "We are thrilled to be opening a brand new HMV store in Leeds' St Johns Centre.
"We are extremely proud of our heritage and our dedicated staff, who, like our customers, share a passion for the best music and film, tech, t-shirts, gifts and collectables.
"We look forward to opening our doors very soon."
