Former power station seeking unconditional bids from new buyers

The former Skelton Grange power station site in Leeds is owned by RWE Power.

Adjacent to the Aire Valley Enterprise Zone in Stourton, the site has been redundant since the coal-fired power station was demolished in 1990.

The site currently has planning consent for 850,000 sq ft of industrial development. It also has permission for a waste incinerator on 20 acres of the land, which was obtained by Biffa last year.

Biffa’s plans are currently on hold until funding for the development is secured.

The industrial agency team at CBRE Leeds is marketing the site and is seeking unconditional bids from potential buyers.

The area is home to companies including Royal Mail, Arla Foods, Sheffield Insulation Group and Robert Horne Paper.

Mike Baugh, senior director of industrial agency at CBRE, said: “This is a hugely significant, strategic site in South Leeds due to its key location next to the Aire Valley Enterprise Zone, its scale and the consents already in place.

“This area of West Yorkshire is already on the map and will benefit from serious investment as the plans for the enterprise zone are realised. This site presents a rare opportunity for a developer/investor to secure a prime piece of land on one of Leeds’ premier commercial corridors.

“We are certainly seeing a steady increase in both occupier and investor activity within the region’s industrial sector and it is an exciting time to be bringing an opportunity site of this scale to market.”
