It is called "We are open" and the directory also allows consumers to narrow their searches down to find shops that are fully open, open by appointment only or open on an online or delivery-only basis.

To use the directory, users just enter their postcode to see the confirmed open independent retailers in their area and in addition, key workers can also narrow their search to find shops currently running offers specific to them.

Mark Walmsley, chairman of the Independent Retailers Confederation, which created the directory said in times like these it is more important than ever to support the UK’s independent retailers. But, with customers being discouraged from leaving the house for unnecessary trips, it can be difficult to know which are still open and when.

He added: "The public still needs products, services and the knowledge that independent retailers provide. ‘We Are Open’ will help them to quickly locate those shops that are open for business. It will help bridge the gap between customers looking for open shops in a certain location, from a specific sector or selling a particular brand, and the retailers that remain open in some way to serve the public.”

The directory is online now at Weareopen.uk.

Retailers can confirm their opening status now at: weareopen.uk/register. All UK independent retailers can add a listing onto the site completely free of charge and can share on social media using the hashtag #weareopenUK.
