Retirement plans by the current landlord of The New Masons Arms in Aberford Road, Oulton, means it has hit the market – and it’s a rare chance for a new owner to step in.

John Hemingway and wife Elaine have run The New Masons Arms for 16 years and lovingly developed it from a drinks-led cosy pub to one that combines good food, accommodation and regular events such as quiz nights.

It’s meant that while some sections of the traditional pub sector in the UK may have struggled in recent years, it has thrived – and is busier than ever.

According to a spokesperson for Leeds-based business property specialists Ernest Wilson, the pub is a dream catch for whoever takes over.According to a spokesperson for Leeds-based business property specialists Ernest Wilson, the pub is a dream catch for whoever takes over.

Part of the attraction for customers is the pub’s impressive reputation for quality food – in particular, its homemade steak pie and fresh fish and ‘proper’ chips – which has racked up a 4.5-star rating on review site TripAdvisor.

While the pub’s accommodation which includes a twin, double and two single rooms, has been rated as “superb” and giving a 9.1 rank by Booking.com.

According to Mr Hemingway, the business’s success is largely down to its friendly staff and expert chefs who make use of the freshest local ingredients.

“Customers enjoy our good quality pub food which the chefs make using the freshest local ingredients.
