You beauty! Classic novel to be performed at open-air theatre

BLACK Beauty comes to the stage for the first time as part of an open-air theatrical production at Castle Howard.

The hugely popular Anna Sewell novel, written in 1877 and from an animal’s perspective, focuses on the mistreatment of working horses at the time.

The production, by award-winning BBC Playwright Susannah Daley and PEEL Heritage, will be staged at the stately home in the Vale of York on Thursday, July 26 and Friday, July 27.

Susannah Daley said: “We do not use real horses, so one of the biggest challenges in staging the production was how to bring the horses to life. Modern design, technology, choreography and theatrical production techniques have enabled us.”
