The advert, which has been posted on Twitter, states they are searching for “confident, charismatic, ambitious and witty people to play roles in an upcoming BBC drama set in the North of England.”

The drama’s characters will be from Yorkshire, and as such, the casting call is seeking people with a “natural Northern accent, ideally Yorkshire.”

Both men and women of all ethnicities are wanted to play characters aged between 25 and 45-years-old.

For this particular casting call, no acting experience is necessary and first time, non-professional actors who fit the brief are being encouraged to apply. They will also be meeting represented actors separately.

Shane Meadows is a director, screenwriter and actor who is best known for his work in independent films such as Dead Man’s Shoes and A Room For Romeo Brass, as well as the cult classic This Is England and its three subsequent television sequel series.

He is known for casting non-professional actors and encouraging them to build characterisation through improvisation.

Both the This Is England trilogy series and Shane’s most recent television offering, The Virtues, were partly filmed in Sheffield, with the former being mainly shot in and around the city’s Gleadless Valley estate and the latter in locations in Broomhall and the city centre.

If you are interested in being involved with the project you should email [email protected] with your name and contact details as well as where you are based.

You will also need to submit a short video clip which is no longer than one minute, telling them a bit about yourself or going through a story you want to share.

Those submitting videos are asked to label them clearly because they cannot process anything which is not labelled correctly.

The casting deadline date is Friday, April 9 this year, and for more information click here.
