The Steph Show compared to 'the Yorkshire Big Brother' in debut from host's home

But the nation's lockdown has meant that The Steph Show debuted today at the real home of host Steph McGovern, who likened it to "the Yorkshire Big Brother with just one contestant".

She added: “Like a lot of people I’m now working from home, and these are strange times so I wanted to create a show from my front room that’s a power hour of positivity where we celebrate the brilliant people out there... whether it’s a key worker grafting on the frontline or someone helping the neighbours out with their shopping, we want to come together to say thank you.

"So let’s have a laugh, get inspired and maybe learn a few things as well.”

Steph showed viewers around the make-shift studio in her front room at her North Yorkshire home, which contains cameras but no operators.

There are five cameras being operated remotely, with the production team work in her garage and trucks outside.

The first episode of featured Skype video call guest appearances from Keith Lemon and Strictly Come Dancing star Anton du Beke, who gave viewers a cha cha cha lesson.

Steph also spoke to a Dundee family with 10 children to find out how they are getting on with home schooling, as well as an advisor from debt charity Leeds-based charity Step Change, who offered guidance to those worried about their finances at the moment.

In the first ‘Steph Show Shout Outs’, the host paid tribute to heroes on the front line of the coronavirus crisis.

“It’s just me in this room with camera," she said.

"So this is like the Yorkshire Big Brother with just one contestant and hopefully no evictions otherwise it will be really awkward.”

She added: "We really are doing this with the minimum people we safely can so please forgive us if things are a bit rough around the edges. But that’s how I’ve been described from most of my career!”

Strictly Come Dancing professional Anton du Beke also revealed his hopes for returning to the show later this year, despite the coronavirus pandemic.

He said: “I should think the pre-production of it should be going ahead as normal.

"It’s when we get into the studio, the pros get into the studio in August…so hopefully we will be out of it [Coronavirus] by then, so hopefully we can get back into the studio.”

He added: “If not, the actual live stuff doesn’t start until about September, so we’re hoping we’ll be out of it by then and back to some sort of normality. I think everyone will be ready for a bit of Strictly Come Dancing by then."

Earlier this month, Channel 4 announced that the show would be filmed at Leeds Dock, where it is still due air from in a "fancy pants" studio, Steph told viewers today.

Tomorrow's episode of The Steph Show, which is due to feature comedian Matt Lucas and documentary maker Stacey Dooley, will air at noon on Channel 4.
