Leeds comedy duo Larry & Paul set up production company for the north

The arrival of Northern Imposters Productions, which will focus on creating and producing northern comedy, is the latest sign that Channel 4 opening in the city is having an impact on the regional screen industry.

Larry Budd and Paul Dunphy - known to fans simply as Larry & Paul - are best known for sketches such as the Royal Television Society Yorkshire award-winning Newsreader Nightmare, Every Political Debate Ever, which has been featured on BBC Radio 5Live, and The ISIS Closing Down Sale, made for BBC Comedy.

Mr Budd, co-founder of Northern Imposters, said: “We know that commissioners up and down the country are looking for fresh comic voices, particularly here in the north.

"Channel 4’s move has catalysed an already-vibrant comedy scene - and we want to bring more of that northern talent to the world’s attention.”

His fellow co-founder Mr Dunphy said: “From stand-up to sketch, sitcom to social media - the north is bursting with comedy talent.

"Northern Imposters is setting out to be a beacon for distinctive radio and TV comedy with a northern voice. But it’s comedy that appeals to the whole of the UK. There’s such a rich vein of

comedy talent here and we’re aiming to get it on screens – big and small.”
