Intruder cast: who stars in Channel 5 drama with Sally Lindsay and Elaine Cassidy - and when is it on TV?

Billed as “a dangerous path of cover up, corruption and murder”, Intruder is set to be the latest police drama keeping us on the edge of our seats.

Here’s everything you need to know about Intruder.

What is Intruder about?

Intruder is a new four-part series following married couple Rebecca (Elaine Cassidy and Sam (Tom Meeten).

The story follows the couple in the wake of a break-in by two local teenagers.

Sam stabs one of the intruders as they try to escape through a window, and then he and Elaine with the help of their friend Angela (Helen Behan) attempt to cover up his tracks.

The teenagers, Tommy (Adam Richardson) and Syed (Sonny Poon Tip) are soon held responsible for the break-in and family liaison officer Karen Bailey (Sally Lindsay) heads up the ensuing investigation.

Director and writer Gareth Tunley said: “We’re living in a world where, over the last few years, it seems everything we thought was solid has dissolved into air.

“So a story like this has an immediate and very current appeal: a couple who clearly think of themselves as ‘good’ people have their world completely flipped upside down and all their comfortable moral assumptions turned inside out.

“I think it’s a story of upheaval that, while it contains some of our worst fears, we can all relate to on some level.”

Sally Lindsay, who plays Bailey, said: “She has a great sense of fairness and her head is turned by the screaming injustices occurring. This is in contrast to Rebecca and Sam who are extremely modern and self-aware yet they end up doing this really horrific thing.

“Bailey is a very efficient yet almost invisible member of the police force, not a high-flying amazing star; she’s just a cog in the wheel of law enforcement.

“Her interest in this case is a revelation and she doesn't quite know how good she is at detecting. She clearly has very clever detective instincts and can see things that other people can’t.”

Executive Producer Mike Benson said: "Intruder is a tale about one awful decision by a married middle class couple, which leads them into increasingly dark deeds and compromises everything they purport to stand for – prepare for a turbulent ride ahead!”

Who’s in the Intruder cast?

Soap fans will recognise Sally Lindsay, who played Shelley Unwin on Coronation Street for five years. The former Corrie actor stars as Karen Bailey. Lindsay has also appeared in Mount Pleasant and Still Open All Hours.

Sam is played by Tom Meeten (The Ghoul) and his wife Rebecca is played by Elaine Cassidy (No Offence, Fingersmith).

They are joined by Helen Behan (The Virtues, Elizabeth is Missing) as their loose cannon friend Angela.

When is Intruder on?

The first episode of Intruder premieres on Channel 5 on Monday 5 April at 9:00pm.

It will air nightly in the same week at 9:00pm each night.

Where was Intruder filmed?

Filming for Intruder took place in Ireland, in Dublin and in County Galway.

One of the show’s lead characters, Rebecca, is a journalist at the ‘Becksfield Gazette’, a small seaside town in England, although the actual location of the setting is not clear.

Her husband is a presenter for a station called London Chat Radio, so it can be assumed the action is split between the two locations.
