But where is the rule stating that festival-goers have to slum it? Indeed many are trading in their tatty tents and treating themselves to an upgrade. Glamorous camping, commonly known as “glamping”, is increasing in popularity among festival-goers who want to enjoy the entertainment and music provided but are prepared to pay more for comfortable lodgings.

For inspiration, take a look at these quirky slumber options available at UK festivals this summer:

At the Wickerman Festival (July 24-25, www.thewickermanfestival.co.uk), you can hire a luxury 16ft diameter yurt for £995, which contains a double bed, duvet and pillows. Each yurt has electricity points, bedside lamps, vanity mirror and towels for two.

Hanging suspended a foot from the ground makes for entertaining digs. BuKuu Teardrop pods sleep up to four adults, with prices starting from £700 for an undressed pod and £850 for one with all the dressings. This summer they form part of the luxury accommodation for the Pop Up Hotel at Glastonbury and are at Camp Bestival, Boomtown Fair and Boomtique (bukuu.co.uk).

The Isle of Wight Festival (June 11-14, isleofwightfestival.com) is upping the glamour stakes this year. Snuggle up in a “Snoozy” (double) room with secure key entry, LED lighting, a USB charging point and exclusive use of dedicated Snoozy showers and toilets. For £800, two people can stay in a Snoozy for four nights, with the price including two standard tickets to the festival (snoozebox.com).

What could possibly be more hip than rocking up in a vintage camper? All vans have heaters, so you can stay toasty even if the English summer disappoints. Along with insurance, breakdown cover and cooking equipment, peak season hire gets you an outdoor table with stools, chairs and a BBQ. Prices start from £450 for three nights in peak season; available for Latitude, Glastonbury, Bestival, V Festival and Green Man in Wales (www.theglampervanhirecompany.com).

Available at more than 30 festivals in the UK this summer, Tangerine Fields provides all manner of options: tents to tipis, yurts to gypsy caravans and even funky dice-like cubes if that’s how you roll... Some festivals even have a special Pamper Parlour. (www.tangerinefields.co.uk)
