1996 was a year which featured a focus on voluntary work to brighten up the community. The Friends of Roundhay Park worked tirelessly to clear the Upper Lake from sunken debris. Elsewhere vandals ruined an anniversary floral display at Canal Gardens while the fun fair at Roundhay Park was facing an uncertain future.
