Whites no 9 Bamford rounded Southampton 'keeper Alex McCarthy in Tuesday evening's clash at St Mary's and was knocked off balance as the Saints custodian's hands caught his foot.
Bamford could easily have gone to ground but stayed on his feet in an attempt to find the net only to see his touch carry the ball to near the byline and allow the Saints to eventually clear.

"It's a penalty," said Bamford, speaking to LUTV post match at St Mary's.
"I said to the referee, nowadays are we trying to encourage diving then because if I go down it's 100 per cent a penalty?
"Whether they check it or not, it's a penalty.
"So surely the fact that it's knocked me off balance but I have tried to stay on my feet, it should still be a penalty.

"But the fact is, you have seen it here, if you don't then you don't get anything for it.
"Do they want players to stay on their feet or go down?"
