Urgent flood alert issued for popular Yorkshire beach and seafront

The flood alert has been put in place for the North Sea coast at Bridlington.
Overtopping waves and spray are expected on the evening of Tuesday between 8pm and midnight as a result of strong winds, according to the flood service.

Hide AdAreas most at risk are seafront areas, low lying land and roads particularly around the lifeboat station and South Pier.
The flood information service - set up by the government - said: "Our incident response staff and our professional partners are checking and operating flood defences as required.
"Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.
"Wind speeds are expected to lessen on Wednesday, but further bad weather is forecast for the end of the week.
"We will continue to monitor the situation and will reissue this Alert if it is required."
The flood alert will be updated with any changes according to the service.
