Today she has spoken of the 12 years of torment from her own husband in a bid to help save others who might also be suffering in silence.
That sense of isolation is only heightened in the current climate as charities warn of a global surge in domestic abuse reports during the lockdown.

Hide AdSusan - not her real name - was pushed to breaking point - it was only when she was driven to a secluded spot and she truly feared for her own life that she was able to escape the clutches of her tormentor.
All she had that day were the clothes on her back.
She never returned home and left all her possessions behind.
But now thanks to the support of Inspire North she has been able to start piecing her life back together.
