'Family, dog and beer-friendly' - Preston Bar, Roundhay Road, Leeds review
Preston Bar - North Bar’s Oakwood edition - first opened in 2013 and, according to its website, remains “the most recent member to the North Bar family”.
Family is the operative word when it comes to Preston Bar.
Its position on Roundhay Road - sandwiched between the popular Stew & Oyster and cafe-bar Hessian - would make you think it may lose out on some trade.

First impressions
There is an immediate homely vibe when you walk through the doors.
A scattering of tables, neatly laid stools set against the quaint but traditional bar, and a warming sofa-style seat leaning on the back wall make for an almost ‘den’-type feel in here.
There’s plenty of North Brewing Co. memorabilia and symbolism around the place too, reflecting the rise in popularity of what has become one of Leeds’s favourite local brewers.

The atmosphere
Due to its homely feel, weekends here are teeming with families.
We’re here on a cold Sunday afternoon but that doesn’t stop at least 20 people packing into the venue.
There’s a couple that appear to be in their mid-to-late 20s, a group of lads in their 30s and at least four families - including babies and cute dogs - enjoying a refresher.

The bar also has an outdoor area for summer - or smokers - with a few benches and tables laid out in warmer weather.
The drinks
First off: this is a North Bar. That means that, if you’re a beer fanatic, there’s plenty tucked away on the humble bar to tantalise your tastebuds.
Sputnik, North’s near-5% pale ale, is a regular on tap here and goes down a treat.

There’s often a good selection of guest beers here too - all laid out on the board - and usually at least one stout or porter on offer and a sour.
Chilled wine, and of course, spirits, are also on the menu.
The service
As a North Bar, table service is offered here subject to availability, often even during the busier periods of the day.
