Child rapist destroyed his victim's life Leeds Crown Court told

Simon Walker targeted and abused his victim over a four year period from when the boy was aged 10 in the late 1990s, Leeds Crown Court heard.

The court was told Walker's victim has suffered mental torture as a result of the abuse which has "ruined his life."

Walker, 43, of no fixed address, is currently serving a 13-year jail sentence imposed in June 2016 after he was convicted of sexually abusing another young boy.

The court was told that in June 2016 a Leeds Crown Court jury convicted Walker of sex offences against a boy committed between 2000 and 2002 before a judge jailed him for 13 years.

The court heard the victim of the late 1990s offences knew of the previous court proceedings, but was not ready to come forward at that time.

Prosecutor, Jeremy Hill-Baker said Walker gave the boy cigarettes and alcohol and showed him pornography before the sex abuse started.

Mr Hill-Baker said the victim spoke to his mother about what had happened when he was in his twenties and told his partner four years ago.

Mr Hill-Baker said: "He had anger issues. It affected him growing up, but he always kept it in.

"He said it was on his mind every day and then something he saw on TV triggered him to get help.

"He felt he hadn't reached his full potential. It had been torture all his life. He carries the images in his head."

Mr Hill-Baker said the victim told police: "I'm ashamed of what he did to me."

Walker admitted one charge of rape, four charges of indecently assaulting a chld and four charges of indeceny with a child.

Darron Whitehead, mitigating, said Walker was aged 20 when he committed the offences.

Mr Whitehead said: "In the time he has been in custody he has had the opportunity to reflect on his offending and of the impact he has had on other people's lives."

Judge Christopher Batty handed Walker a seven year consecutive prison sentence with a one year licence extension.

The sentence will start when Walker's current 13 year sentence ends.

Judge Batty told Walker his victim was a vulnerable child, adding: "You introduced him to alcohol, cigarettes and pornography, all of which were designed to win his acceptance of the sexual advances you intended to make towards him.

"The impact on him has been enormous. He feels he never realised his potential at school.

"He describes feeling pain and this being torture for him all his life. He carries all the images in his head. He cannot switch it off. It is always on his mind.

"He feels shame about his involvement in these offences. He suffers depression and feels that since these offences he has always had issues with anger.

"He turned to the use of alcohol to block out those emotions. In short, his life has been ruined."

Judge Batty made Walker the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
