Pupils were ‘determined’ to do their best to honour teacher Ann Maguire
Steve Mort, the head of Corpus Christi Catholic College, in Leeds, said that Ann Maguire would have been extremely proud of pupils’ achievements as the school recorded some of its best ever results today.
Mrs Maguire was killed in April in an incident which shocked the country. A 16-year-old boy is expected to face a murder trial over her death later this year.

Mr Mort said: “After a difficult few months, we are delighted that our students have achieved some fantastic results in their GCSEs this year.
“The staff and students have worked very hard in difficult circumstances and I am very proud that they have achieved some of our school’s best ever results.
“All of our students were determined to do their very best in memory of Ann, and she would have been extremely proud of what they have achieved, as we all are.

Mrs Maguire went to Corpus Christi as a student teacher and, last year, the school held a celebration of her 40 years at the school.
This year, she moved to working four days a week ahead of her planned retirement in five months’ time.
Paying tribute to her earlier this year Mr Mort said: “She was enjoying the latter end of her career although I know, to Ann, that her service to Corpus Christi was not a career. She considered it to be a vocation.”
