The Whites are likely to be quiet throughout January, as are most clubs according to Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce.
"Look, I've spoken to many head coaches and managers,” said Bruce. “I can't see there being much of a transfer window. I would think maybe one or two loans.
"We're haemorrhaging money at the moment, so we've just got to batten down the hatches, and if anything can help us, then we'll try, but I wouldn't expect a big flurry that's for sure."
Marcelo Bielsa is happy with his squad and doesn’t expect many major incomings at Elland Road, though there was one loan exit today, but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from turning. Corriere dello Sport on Friday suggested Fiorentina midfielder Erick Pulgar is still on Bielsa’s radar while reports claim Championship hotshots are also being eyed. We shall see.
Hamza Choudhury’s hopes of leaving Leicester City this month however appear to have received a blow after Brendan Rodgers revealed the Foxes aren’t interested in entertaining loan agreements.
Newcastle and West Brom have been linked with the player but Magpies boss Steve Bruce admitted to the Gazette today he won’t have the cash to sign players permanently, and that he doubts many Premier League deals will be done.
“It’s one where the stage he’s at in his career, he’s played enough games, so it’s something where a loan deal isn’t an overly attractive one at this moment in time,” Rodgers told LeicestershireLive.
“It’s just something that we’re not in a big rush to do, but because of the enquiries over a loan, I just wanted to make it clear that he’s not really a player that we’re overly keen on loaning. If someone is looking to buy him, or sees his qualities to buy then that’s a different matter. We’ll see what January brings on that front.”
What this weekend will no doubt bring is an opportunity for a number of fringe players at clubs to get some game time in the cup, put themselves in the shop window to hopefully secure a move away from the club.
