Sunderland 1-0 Leeds United highlights: Black Cats defeat Whites on Wearside
Leeds' visit to Wearside tonight is their first since a 2-0 win over Sunderland in August 2017. Since then, the two sides have been on vastly different trajectories, with the north-east club dropping into League One at the same time Leeds sparred with the Premier League's big-hitters.
This season, the pair are promotion hopefuls with United having been relegated from the top flight looking to bounce straight back, while Sunderland's hopes of a Premier League return were dashed by Luton Town in the play-offs last term.

Hide AdDaniel Farke was especially pleased with his team's performance at Blackburn Rovers over the weekend but may be forced into changes this evening after Sam Byram was withdrawn midway through the second half with a hamstring injury in that fixture. The quick turnaround also means the team have had minimal time on the training pitch since Saturday lunchtime's 2-0 victory.
Kick-off this evening is at 8pm. Team news arriving from 7 o'clock at the Stadium of Light. All the build-up, line-ups, and live match updates here throughout the night.
Sunderland vs Leeds United LIVE
FT: Sunderland 1-0 Leeds United
Leeds beaten, and you have to say out-fought, on the road. Players surrounding the officials at full-time.
89' Piroe off the line. Dutch striker does well to get control of the ball inside the penalty area. Prods one towards the net but it's cleared in the nick of time.
GOAL Sunderland 1-0
78' Bellingham applies the finishing touch to a good Sunderland move, although a bit fortunate with a Leeds clearing header which cannoned off Pritchard and fell kindly for the teenager inside the area. Tight offside call, too, but hosts in front.
Counter
73' Summerville on the counter plants his shot low and straight into Patterson's grasp. Good break by Leeds, originating from Rutter's clearing header at a corner and Kamara's chasing down of the loose ball.
Into the book
70' Necessary yellow card by Dan James as Sunderland counter and switch it to Roberts who cushions the ball beautifully and has a run on goal from deep in Leeds' half. James upends him and goes into the book. Seelt off for Ekwah for the hosts.
This is like play-off football
65' Clarke lashes at one after some attempted acrobatics in the Leeds penalty area. Struijk bravely headed clear which fell to the ex-United man. Still nothing between these two.
