Jesse Marsch reveals fresh fears over Leeds United star man’s injury ahead of Bournemouth

Sinisterra was one of several players in doubt for Saturday’s trip to Anfield to face Liverpool and failed to recover in time to feature in the victory. He won’t be back in time to face Bournemouth at Elland Road this weekend either, with Marsch confirming a foot problem that could be costly for the Whites. At best, the winger could be out until after the World Cup.

“He has a foot injury that turns out to be more than what we originally thought it was,” said the America.

"He wasn't making the progress that we were hoping for him to make over the last 10 days and so they did another scan and then they had a specialist look at it, and they start to worry about it being a Lisfranc injury, so maybe you guys have heard of that. It’s a rare injury that controls the movement of the metatarsal and when that is ruptured, it can be a long recovery. We don’t believe it’s ruptured, we believe it’s partially torn, which puts him in a little bit of a grey area, but probably out until after the World Cup break.”

Sinisterra has started just six Premier League games this season since a £21m move from Feyenoord, but his goals against Everton and Brentford marked him out as a key threat, particularly from long range, for the Whites.

Marsch expects to learn more about Sinisterra’s issue today, but for now he remains on the sidelines along with long-term injury victim Stuart Dallas [femoral fracture, surgery] and Adam Forshaw [hernia, surgery].

“Stuart and Adam are injured but making progress,” said Marsch.

"Archie Gray will be, we think, on the pitch tomorrow. So starting getting closer to training with the full team.”

Leo Hjelde, who recently had an appendectomy, returned to action for the Under 21s this week in Papa John’s Trophy action at Crewe Alexandra.
