Leeds residents have woken up to snow this morning, with disruption expected across the city.

A yellow weather warning for ice and snow that covers Leeds has been in place since yesterday evening and lasts until 5pm today, with warnings of “hazardous conditions” amid icy roads and pavements.

Warnings that traffic will be affected are in place and injuries could also occur from those slipping on the surfaces.

The Met Office has issued the below details about the yellow weather warning that covers Leeds and is in place until 11am today:

Showers, falling as snow inland, will lead to icy patches and hazardous conditions.

What to Expect

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

Parts of the UK to see 10cm of snow

Parts of the UK could see up to 10cm of snow on Thursday, with temperatures expected to drop “well below freezing” overnight, forecasters have said.

Snow has swept across Leeds and other parts of Yorkshire as well as south-west of England, the north-east and Scotland, with more expected throughout the day.

Met Office spokesman Oli Claydon said parts of Dartmoor could potentially see 5-10cm of snow throughout the day, with other areas of the South West seeing “more modest accumulations” of one to three centimetres. The weather warning for Leeds was in place until 11am this morning.
