Two people rescued as seven fire engines tackle large blaze in Armley flat

The fire broke out in a flat above a commercial premises on Crab Lane, Armley, at about 7.30pm.
Two people were rescued by firefighters and an eyewitness said he saw a woman jump to safety from the building.

Hide AdHe added: "Three ambulances have left hospital bound and there are three more here with the fire engines."
In a statement, West Yorkshire Fire said: "We currently have seven fire engines in attendance at a serious flat fire in the Armley area.
"Two persons have been rescued and crews are currently checking to see if any further persons are involved.
"This is flats located above commercial premises and crews have used four hose reels and eight breathing apparatus.

West Yorkshire Police have been called to the scene to assist firefighters and paramedics.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We got reports at 7.35pm of a fire at a premises, police have attended to assist fire and ambulance. Enquiries are ongoing."
