MORE than one in three children in central Leeds live in households dependent on state benefits, the government has admitted.

Over the last 10 years there seems to be a deliberate move by the Council to let this area become run down. The result of this has been that many of the houses have been bought up by absentee landlords who rent them out to people on Social Security benefits.
After a while it becomes an area associated with only these kind of households and cannot attract other tenants or buyers.
The infrastructure runs down, poor bus services, under performing schools, anti social behaviour. The dye is cast and without positive programmes and investment the area is doomed.
