EXCITING things are happening in the city’s nightlife scene at the moment.

Not only are we gaining an ice bar but details are being released of two other bars that are set to open this year.

Firstly, new pool bar Slate, which takes over the former Lounge site on Merrion Street, is launching on Thursday, June 18.

It’s a pretty quick turnaround from the owners but the Jones Bar Group (who also own Roxy Ballroom, Brooklyn Bar and LAB, to name a few) obviously know what they’re doing.

We’ve heard the venue will keep its outdoor areas, so as well as playing pool and eating pizza until your heart’s content, you can also soak up some rays with a cocktail or two.

Secondly, news of Headrow House is starting to get out.

The new project is taking over the former Big Lil’s venue just a stone’s throw from The Headrow and will include a street food area, indoor bar and stage.

As City Buzz previously revealed, the Beacons Metro Festival will host a series of events at the venue in October.

The people behind Belgrave Music Hall are taking over the huge 11,000sq ft site, which is spread across three floors and will include two rooftop areas.

There are rumours surfacing of a launch date sometime in October, and indie-rockers Titus Andronicus have been booked for a gig at the venue in November.

We’ll be at the launch of Slate next week and will keep you posted about Headrow House, so keep your eyes peeled on the City Buzz pages every Friday.
