Have your say

Great Britain’s Prime Ministers have always spent time in God’s Own County throughout their terms of office and many of these visits were reported in our newspapers.

In the Twenties David Lloyd George was photographed with Robert Sumner at Sowerby bridge station and Stanley Baldwin had a copy of The Yorkshire Post tucked under his arm in this picture although the date and place remain a mystery.

Clement Attlee became Prime Minister in 1945 but before that he was the wartime deputy Prime Minister and was photographed in Leeds in front of this car fitted with blackout headlights.

Harold Macmillan was just north of the Yorkshire border in 1959 when he was entertained by Teddy Gardner, landlord of the Victoria Hotel at West Hartlepool and arguably the greatest of them all Sir Winston Churchill visited Slaithwaite in our final picture.
