Over the years local meat has been brought to our dinner plates professionally by a dedicated network of Leeds butchers.

Governor of New Zealand Sir Denis Blundell talked to Jack Wright in 1970 at the Leeds Wholesale Meat Market and way before Masterchef appeared on our screens Michael Binns reached the Master Butcher of the Year semi final in Leeds in 1977.

Jack Myers posed for our cameras with trader Rod Brown in 1984 and the previous winter shoppers got an unexpected bargain from Trevor Middleton who gave away vegetables with his meat after fearing that his shop might be closed due to the Storms of February 1983.

In 1973 four of Leeds’ top butchers teamed up to sell Sunday lunch to customers which must have benefitted everybody as well as beefing up the economy of the city.
