Hull. May 10, 1977: Richad Hoffman, four, brought cool comfort to Nellie, a seven-year-old Indian elephant, on one of the warmer days so far that year.

Richard, son of a circus director, Peter Hoffman, hoped to be an elephant trainer. The Circus Hoffman was in Hull before going to Sheffield.
