Leeds nostalgia: sculpture vultures scuppered brick man plan

Have your say

Brick Man: It was the sculpture which Leeds almost nearly had. Proposed by artist Antony Gormley, it would have stood on Holbeck Triangle and at 120ft, it would have included an internal staircase.

However, in 1988 councillors dubbed the planned construction ‘a monstrosity’ and overwhelmingly voted against allowing it. A smaller replica resides in Leeds Art Gallery.
