Leeds nostalgia: Post punk Leeds-based band Salvation in 1987

Toward the tail end of the 1980s, cities like Leeds were littered with dozens of forlorn concrete landscapes, abandoned places scoured of the factories which once stood there... and such places made excellent backdrops for promo pictures for bands whose music captured the zeitgeist.

Salvation were releasing their album Diamonds are Forever on York-based label EDIESTA. The album stayed in the Indie Charts for several months. Other bands featured in the Indie Charts at the time included Erasure, The Smiths, The Shamen and The Pogues.

In the 90’s, Salvation signed to US label IRS (Home of REM). The band are still active and play regularly around the UK.

They featured in a recent Vive Le Rock magazine article on the 80s post-punk scene in the North of England and in November last year they headlined the Leeds Goth City Festival, alongside Zeitgeist Zero and Rhombus.
