Leeds Town Hall was well on the way to being finished in 1858 and close scrutiny of our main picture will reveal “ghost” images of workers and onlookers who were present when our picture was taken.
127 years later our photographer scaled the dizzying heights to capture this photograph of the construction of the Bond Street shopping centre.
The skeletal framework of Quarry Hill flats loomed up behind Leeds Bus Station in the late thirties and around the same time cranes festooned the roof of the newly built Queens Hotel while the Black Prince looked on.
Finally, this wasn’t modern art. It was the framework of the tower at Yorkshire Television Studios being built in 1968.
