Runners made quite a splash at the 48th Great Knaresborough Bed Race.

The annual event saw 90 teams, each with their own bed and rider, battle it out to be crowned the winner on Saturday. (June 8)

Teams met at Knaresborough Castle in fancy dress for the ‘Myths and Legends’ theme, before setting off for the race at 3pm.

During the challenge, teams had to tackle a gruelling course along the Nidd Gorge, up Castle Ings and around the Marketplace, before descending to High Bridge.

They then had to swim across the River Nidd before crawling up the bank to the finish line.

The 2.4 mile course can take up to half an hour to complete and prizes go to the fastest teams.

There are also prizes for the best decorated bed and most entertaining team.

The annual event is organised by volunteers and raises thousands of pounds for charity.
