FIRE-fighting pup Paddy is proving he’s top dog as he undergoes training to join West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The adorable seven-month-old black Labrador is set to be one of 15 fire investigation search dogs in the UK – and the only dog in West Yorkshire – and will help identify how deliberate fires are started.

Veterinary group White Cross Vets is sponsoring Paddy with free health-checks, care and medication as he completes his training.

Hayley Thompson, head nurse at White Cross Vets, said: “Working in such a crucial role means it’s important that he’s always in tip-top condition and by offering him regular check-ups and treatments, we can ensure that he’s always at the top of his game.”

Firefighter Andy Ross added: “Hopefully he’ll help investigate fires throughout Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and beyond.”
