Leeds-based charity Burmantofts Senior Action is one of just 43 recipients of a prestigious award.

The Duke of York’s Community Initiative is presented to a small number of Yorkshire organisations that complete a rigorous application process and are seen as inspiring and of real value to the community.

Burmantofts Senior Action helps older people live independently in their own homes and offers lunch clubs and day trips to combat loneliness.

Councillor Adam Ogilvie, Leeds City Council’s executive member for adult social care, said: “It’s always fantastic to see our networks getting the recognition they so richly deserve.”

PERFORMERS: Havana Hurricane, one of Britains top 10 Burlesque performers.
