Today is the day people across the city will unite for a 24-hour fundraising frenzy for the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal in aid of the Leeds Children’s Hospital.

Over the past few weeks, Leeds’ mayor, Coun David Congreve, has been calling on businesses, organisations, schools and residents to give up their time for ‘Just One Day’ - on April 24 - in a special fundraiser which he hopes will become an annual event.

Just One Day aims to give a final fundraising push to the mayor’s chosen charity this year - the Leeds Children’s Hospital Appeal - before he finishes his term of office this May.

All money raised today will go towards funding vital equipment at the hospital and brightening up the wards.

Hospital staff are among those who have pledged to take part and will be holding a teddy bear sale throughout the day.

Sharon Evans, fundraising development manager for Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charitable Foundation, said: “#Just1day is a fantastic way for local people to get involved and support The Lord Mayor’s Charity.

“Our teddy bear sale will be brilliant and we’re looking forward to the Lord Mayor popping by to say hello and help out too.

“Staff, patients and visitors can not only grab themselves a bargain, but will be supporting this fantastic cause too.”

Staff here at YPN Towers will also be part of today’s fundraising action with an office cake sale.

Coun Congreve, said: “We are very excited to see the first ever ‘Just One Day’ campaign kick-off today, which will see residents, businesses, groups, organisations and visitor attractions across the city join forces to raise funds for my chosen charity this year, the fantastic Leeds Children’s Hospital.”
