Angry Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws was left fuming after out-of-favour midfielder Kenny Lunt rejected a loan move just before the transfer window deadline.
The former Crewe schemer hasn't featured in Laws' first team plans this season, mainly playing for the reserves and with the Owls' academy players in friendly matches.

And a loan bid from an un-named club was made prior to Monday night's transfer
deadline which was turned down from the Runcorn-born ace – much to Laws' incredulity.

With Laws needing to move players on to bring in any recruits – with the emergency loan market opening on Monday – Lunt's actions have left a sour taste in his mouth.

He said: "Players make me laugh when they say they just want to play games and when they do get an opportunity to play games, they don't want to go.

"It really does infuriate me at times."

Laws added: "He can't change his (playing) style and that's not being disrespectful. He can't get around the park like other players and he's frozen out of the first team."

Meanwhile, Laws has slapped a "not-for-sale" sign on the head of defender Richard Wood, who recently saw a transfer request turned down at the club.

Coventry were keen to land the highly-rated defender, also recently linked with Birmingham.

Laws said: "Richard Wood did hand in a transfer request and I am not prepared to lie about it because it is a fact.

"I have spoken to him at length and I have told him there is no way that the request will be granted.

"The club have made that 100 per cent clear and he accepts that. I want to build a team around Woody.

"I saw Chris Coleman at a League Manager's Association meeting a while ago and he asked me about Richard.

"I told him: 'Forget about it, you're not having him, but thanks for the interest' and that is the last time I spoke to him."

Despite failing to land long-term target Wood, Sky Blues chairman Ray Ranson has intimated the club will not give up their interest.

He revealed that the club have made the Owls a number of offers for the 23-year-old, including cash-plus-player deals, but Hillsborough chiefs refuse to do business.

He said: "We are disappointed not to have been able to do anything as far as Richard Wood is concerned.

"He's been a long-term target of the manager's but Sheffield Wednesday's position is that any money that comes in from the sale of players has to go straight to the bank, so they are reluctant to sell anyone at any price.

"We made a number of offers and proposals, including player-exchange deals, so it is disappointing. We will have to review the situation in a few months."
