LEEDS UNITED expect Bradley Johnson to be fit to take part in their forthcoming tour of the Republic of Ireland despite seeing the midfielder limp out of Friday night's 1-1 draw with York City.
Johnson was substituted four minutes from the end of United's first pre-season friendly at KitKat Crescent after sustaining a hip injury, but Leeds are hopeful that he will be ready to play a prominent role in the club's Irish tour.

The 21-year-ol
d is Gary McAllister's main fitness concern ahead of Wednesday night's clash with Galway United – the first of three matches planned in Ireland – and Leeds are also waiting to learn whether striker Tresor Kandol will recover from a virus in time to make the trip across the Irish Sea.

Kandol was absent from the group of 24 players taken to York by McAllister on Friday, and the Congolese international has been isolated from the rest of United's squad to prevent a spread of infection.

McAllister, who was finalising his squad for the trip to Ireland on the back of United's positive display at KitKat Crescent, said: "He's had a little bit of a virus so we've kept him away from the place."

Leeds, however, will be without Neil Kilkenny for the tour of Eire and the rest of their pre-season schedule with the midfielder poised to join up with Australia's national squad ahead of the Olympic Games in Beijing next month.

Kilkenny returned to Thorp Arch for pre-season training this week and completed 45 minutes of United's 1-1 draw with York.

But he will fly to China to prepare for the Olympics on Wednesday and will not rejoin McAllister's squad until the middle of August.

The 22-year-old's international commitments will force him to miss the start of the new season and at least two of United's League One fixtures, but McAllister has numerous other midfielders available to him, and he was able to take his first look at recent signing Andy Robinson on Friday night.

The former Swansea City winger was introduced as a substitute at half-time and played out the second half of an even contest in North Yorkshire.

McAllister, who also handed Enoch Showunmi his Leeds debut shirt, said: "It's a first chance for the fans to have a look at them, but it was all about getting 45 minutes of match practice.

"We're really looking forward to Ireland now. We've got a fortnight over there and we can get some serious work done.

"We'll be living in each other's pockets and it's a chance to bond together.

"A few players impressed me (against York) so there might be a couple of additions to the 19-man squad I've already named.

I'll be looking to take 21 or 22."

Academy defenders Robert Bayly and Scott Gardner are two players who pushed themselves into contention with solid performances against York.

Bayly started the friendly in the centre of defence while Gardner operated at right-back after half-time, the youngster's first appearance since making his league debut for Leeds on the final day of last season.

Gardner said: "It felt a bit strange to be out there so soon but I did feel quite fit.

"I thought I'd be blowing, and I think that shows you how much work we've done this week. It's been good for us."
