BIG-GAME player Jay-Jay Okocha could be the Tigers' play-off trump card.
That's the verdict of boss Phil Brown, who is set to bring back the former Nigerian World Cup star from cold storage in time for their play-off odyssey which starts with a semi-final trip to Watford in a high-noon showdown today.
Brown feels the p
rodigious skills of the schemer could prove decisive for City at some point in the play-offs, with the dead-ball specialist back in the fray for the first time in seven weeks after damaging knee ligaments in late March.
Richard Garcia and Henrik Pedersen also return in the travelling party for the Vicarage Road clash.
Brown said: "There have been certain games where we haven't played well, but Jay-Jay gives you ability and flair on the ball. He's the type of player who has been around in numerous pressure-cooker games in his career and that's why we brought him here.
"They don't come any bigger than the chance to play for £60m and a place in the Premier League.
"It's not all about Jay-Jay at this minute in time, though, we need to be at our best to go to Watford and get a positive result."
City have left nothing to chance in their play-off mission and have used Arsenal's world-class training facilities at London Colney in the lead up to today's test in Hertfordshire after agreeing a deal with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger.
Meanwhile, the Tigers have been linked with a high-profile summer move for Bonaventure Kalou – older brother of Chelsea attacker Salomon Kalou.
According to his agent, Kalou has indicated his clear intention to move to English shores and be closer to his brother, believing he can add much to the English game.
The 30-year-old striker, who has scored 12 times in 51 international appearances for the Ivory Coast, started off at Dutch side Feyenoord before having spells in the French League with Auxerre, Lens and Paris St Germain.
Agent Saif Rubie revealed: "We are talking to several Championship sides, Hull seem to be favourites. Bona would love a move to England to be closer to his brother and is the type of player who could make a real impact – especially at Championship level."
Among other clubs seeking Kalou's services are believed to be Wolves and Charlton, with Rubie adding: "His pedigree speaks for itself. He is hungry and at 30 years of age he still has good years ahead of him."
HIGHLY-RATED centre-back Michael Turner clinched all three of the club's player-of-the-season awards at a ceremony held at the stadium this week.
The former Brentford defender bagged a clean sweep of the awards on offer, scooping the player-of-the-season, players' player-of- the-season and City! magazine's player-of- the-season accolades.
