Newwinger Gary Roberts wants to go back to the Championship.
The good news is he wants to go back there with Huddersfield Town.

In just a handful of games for Town, Roberts has looked potentially a cut above League One level.

It's little surprise that Town boss Stan Ternent had to fork out £250,000 to lu
re the Scouser, a product of the Liverpool Academy, from Ipswich Town – themselves in the Championship.

Ternent has made seven summer signings, including new skipper Chris Lucketti, but Roberts has arguably made the biggest impression so far.

The 24-year-old is thriving at the Galpharm and now aims to take himself and his new club to the level they both belong.

"I don't want to be playing in League One all my life and neither do Huddersfield," said Roberts.

"I want to get into the Championship because I believe I can play at that standard.

"My aim, and the club's aim, is to get into the Championship so hopefully we can do that together.

"I like it here. It's a good club, a big club and we have a very good manager.

"There's a good set of lads and it's closer to home, which is good for me, good for my girlfriend and good for all concerned."

Roberts has experienced a week to remember – his brace proved inspirational in seeing off Bradford City in the Carling Cup this week and earned him the man-of-the-match award.

His girlfriend was also due to give birth to their first child this week though that didn't stop Roberts enjoying a quick round of golf on Wednesday to wind down after Tuesday night's cup win.

Roberts is clearly basking in his new surroundings and admits being very much in favour under Ternent, which makes a refreshing change to his time at Ipswich last season.

"I didn't enjoy last season one bit," admitted Roberts. "I was in and out of the team, which is not good, and to know that you are not the manager's first choice means you just don't feel valued.
