Doncaster Rovers have been given a timely pre-season boost by Mark Wilson and Craig Nelthorpe, who have both signed new deals with the newly-promoted South Yorkshire club.
Midfielder Wilson, who missed the play-off final against Leeds at Wembley last term because of a groin injury, has signed a new two-year deal at the Keepmoat.
He struggled to hold down a place in Sean O'Driscoll's starting 11 last season, but wil
l now be at Rovers until at least the end of the 2010 season. Wilson made 34 appearance last term, many of them off the bench.
there was believed to be interest in the midfielder from other clubs, but Wilson has decided to stay with Rovers and try to force himself into the starting line-up when the Keepmoat outfit begin their Championship season – the first time in 50 years that they have been in the second tier of English football.
the 29-year-old former Manchester United and Middlesborough player will add skill and experience to the Rovers cause.
Youngster Nelthorpe spent a majority of last season on loan with spells at both Halifax Town and Darlington.
The left-sided midfielder has only made three first-team appearances, but is regarded as a promising prospect at the Keepmoat.
Nelthorpe, like Wilson, has now decided to stay at Rovers and push for a starting place.
Meanwhile, Doncaster will play the second game of their pre-season schedule against Scunthorpe at the Keepmoat on Saturday.
Should Scunthorpe captain Andy Crosby play it will be against his former club, having started his career as a junior at Doncaster 17 years ago.
Rovers have also arranged a friendly against League Two club Morecambe on Tuesday, July 22 (7.45pm).
The South Yorkshire club last played the Shrimps in the 2002-2003 Conference season, the match finishing 1-1.
Rovers will be playing the game in their second strip.
Rovers boss O'Driscoll has this week confirmed that the club are looking at young defender Jamie Lovegrove.
Lovegrove has been playing his football with Blue Square Premier team Crawley Town but was released at the end of last season.
