YOU could have heard a pin drop in the Bradford dressing room on Tuesday night and Kyle Nix admits he and his team-mates badly "let down" the expectant visiting hordes in a horror Carling Cup exit to Huddersfield.
The claret-and-amber faithful – all 3,229 of them – made the short trip to the Galpharm full of expectation, but their hopes were shattered in a cataclysmic second half when a gulf in a class was exposed by virtue of four unanswered goals from rampan
t Town.
The dazzling salvo, with the quartet of strikes arriving in just over half-an-hour, left bewildered City supporters in a daze – not to mention shellshocked players.
And while the overwhelming priority is promotion back to League One this term, try telling that to the bumper away following, who backed City to the hilt – even during their second-half implosion.
Nix rued: "It was really disappointing. The fans were great, to be fair. We lost 4-0 and just feel as though we let them down.
"It might have been only the Carling Cup, but it was a massive game for us – one of our biggest of the season.
"It was really low in the dressing room. Everyone was quiet, whereas on Saturday, everyone was buzzing and looking forward to Tuesday. That's football.
"We'll get disappointments along the way this season, and highs and lows, but it's about how you deal with it."
He added: "The second half was poor and it just happened so quick, it seemed like they scored four goals in about 10 minutes!
"I can't really explain what happened after half-time. There was no lack of trying or effort, which you always need in a derby, but they just had that bit of quality.
"It wasn't a 4-0 game. I just think after the first goal, we crumbled. There wasn't a lot in the first half and it was probably a case of whoever got the first goal would go onto win it.
"Obviously, with it being a cup game, we wanted to push on after they scored.
